    Mason, Ohio, March 19, 2010 – It’s only been three months since Afidence, Inc., an IT consulting firm, headquartered in Mason opened their doors and they’ve already surpassed their first quarter goals by adding three new clients and two new employees to their firm.

    On Thursday, March 19^th the firm commemorated their success by hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at their office in Mason’s historic business district with the Northeast Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce as well as representatives from the NEC Chamber Diplomat Committee. Afidence participants include: Bryan Hogan, President, Barbara Hogan, Todd Henry, Sara Miller, as well as the newest member of the Sales/Marketing team, Jeanne Johnson. Members from the NEC Chamber included Angie Morgan and Tracey Nickell.

    Hogan attributes their early success to having “exceptional people that clients genuinely enjoy working with”. In addition to hiring Jeanne Johnson, they’ve recently hired Chris Fares, an Engineering Consultant who will work with a large financial services client in Dayton. What factors in a company foster gossip?

• Poor communication
• People aren’t being heard (pressure release)
• Culture (someone in power gossips)
• Power (trading in information) 
• Change (any kind) 
• Personal maturity (or immaturity) 
• Boredom (not enough to do) 
• Poor Performance (diversion from themselves) 
• Fear (need to drag someone else down so you look better)

Is all gossip bad?

• Typically when I hear the word “gossip” I think of something negative, essentially someone speaking poorly of someone else. According to gossip definitions (see below) not all definitions are negative; however, use the word gossip today and most people consider it to be negative.
• Gossip in its truest sense is ALWAYS bad in my humble opinion. Talking maliciously about others is always wrong. That’s where the line is formed. If you are wondering whether you are gossiping, ask yourself this question: Am I a part of the solution or am I furthering the problem?
• Turn gossip into a positive.  Is it possible?  Yes, make sure what you say is not destructive. And if you want to stay above and far away from the line, offer compliments to other employees through the gossip chain — that’ll really blow their minds.

How can we effectively corral gossip?

• Be deliberate about communication
• Turn gossip for good (meet it headlong; left alone, gossip grows like cancer)
• Promote or champion people
• Direct people back to the person with whom they are struggling
• Managers/Supervisors, etc. should hold themselves to a higher standard
• Address as part of the Culture

I highly recommend Steve Browne’s monthly roundtable in Sharonville, Ohio. There are about 150 HR people that attend. Adding a personal touch, Steve tries to greet each one personally as they arrive for the group. We’re looking for an energetic, self-motivated technical project manager who wants to be part of a leading-edge initiative to manage and support a standardized Windows client solution for a Cincinnati Fortune 100 company.  You will work with business partners to drive new site deployments and provide SME technical assistance for IT leads/testers.

 Required Technical Skills Include:

* 5+ years Windows client/server support

* 2+ years Active Directory experience

* 1+ years Group Policy experience

* Remote technical support experience

* In-depth knowledge of Windows XP registry and profiles (including roaming and mandatory)
